About Freemasonry
A gentle society of friends
Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest fraternity: a gentle society of friends, bound by a shared belief in a Supreme Being and a common wish to live well and do good.
Its roots lie with the operative stonemasons who raised the great cathedrals of Europe. Where they shaped rough stone into true and square blocks, we take the same working tools as symbols and turn them to the shaping of character. We meet upon the level, act by the plumb, and part upon the square.
A Mason is not asked to leave his faith or his politics at the door. He keeps both. He is asked only to be a good man of good repute, to believe in a Supreme Being, and to wish to become better than he is.

Charity
A long habit of quiet relief, for Brethren and for the wider community alike.
Self-improvement
A path of learning, taken degree by degree, that asks a man to build himself.
Belonging
A place at the table for a man and his family, and a hand offered in times of need.
Interested in joining?
To become a Mason, a man asks. Approach any Brother you know, or write to the District and we will introduce you to the Lodge nearest you. There is no secret to the first step: you need only ask, of your own free will and accord.
